UN Secretary-General: Gaza children dying or witnessing their parents killed
ASTANA, Thursday, July 4, 2024 (WAFA) – António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, today expressed grave concern over the situation in Gaza, where he stated that children are "dying or witnessing their parents being killed" due to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at the 24th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in the Kazakh capital, Astana, Guterres described how Gaza's children are suffering from serious injuries, psychological trauma, and are witnessing the destruction of their homes.
"The scenes experienced by Palestinian children in Gaza must stop," Guterres emphasized, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for humanitarian reasons and an end to bloodshed. He stressed the urgent need for increased life-saving humanitarian aid to the region.
The Secretary-General reiterated the necessity for a clear commitment and roadmap to ensure a two-state solution and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
