US wars are endless, humanity the target, not terrorism

Post-9/11, America deceptively launched what it called a Global War on Terrorism.

Kerry’s Duplicitous Moscow Mission

Russia urges mutual cooperation among all nations - on the basis of each one respecting the sovereignty of others, none demanding its interests matter most at their expense, the way Washington unilaterally operates.

Expect Kerry’s latest mission to Moscow to accomplish nothing. Two nations have fundamentally opposite agendas.

Russia is the world’s leading peacemaker, going all-out to resolve conflicts in Ukraine and Syria diplomatically - impossible to achieve given America’s belligerent agenda.

It wants endless wars of aggression for unchallenged global dominance, including all independent governments replaced by pro-Western ones - mainly Russia and China, its two main rivals, standing in the way of its ultimate goal.

The no-fly list is a terrible tool for gun control, in part because it is a terrible tool

I made a joke on Twitter on Sunday night, which, as is the case with all Twitter jokes, was a mistake.

It came after President Obama's Oval Office address, during which he advocated for excluding people on the government's no-fly list from buying weapons. The joke was this:

HOW TO BAN GUNS Step 1: People on no-fly list can’t buy guns. Step 2: Everyone goes on no-fly list.

The point of the joke -- which I very quickly realized was lost on some, making it a bad joke -- was that the no-fly list is a secret list that uses secret criteria to determine who finds a home on it.

A majority of Americans oppose an “assault weapons” ban for the first time in 20 years of New York Times’ polling on the topic.

According to NYU political scientist Patrick Egan, the opposition to such a ban is up 16 percentage points from the numbers seen in 2011. Moreover, support for an “assault weapons” ban is down 19 percent. On January 15-19, 2011 Americans polled at 63 percent in favor of a ban and 34 against. On December 4-8, 2015, American polled only 44 percent in favor of such a ban, with 50 percent polling in opposition.

Problem, Reaction, Solution: US Will Add a Third Level to Terror Warnings

For us old-timers, memories of those post-9/11 days persist like that rotting squirrel stuck somewhere under your back porch.

One of the features of those dirty days was the panic index, actually called the terrorism alert system, created by the then-new Department of Homeland Security. The system featured a five-step, color-coded “alert level” ranging from black (normal) to red (attack imminent.) The system was criticized for doing little more than promoting a constant background hum of anxiety when it basically got stuck at “elevated risk” for nearly eight years.

The Obama administration, in 2010, replaced the old five step system with a new two step one: imminent and elevated. It too got stuck in elevated mode and faded into obscurity.

Indeed, soon after the award was announced in October, Deaton published some startling work with Ann Case in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences – research that is at least as newsworthy as the Nobel ceremony.

IMF helps Ukraine steal 3 billion from Russia

Russia lashed out against the International Monetary Fund and the Ukrainian government on Wednesday as it prepares for a legal battle with Kiev over repayment of $3bn in Ukrainian debt.

Anton Siluanov, finance minister, said if Kiev failed to redeem the $3bn bond within 10 days of its December 20 maturity or accept a restructuring proposal tabled by President Vladimir Putin last month, Russia would sue Ukraine.

“Well all right, go to court,” Mr Putin told Mr Siluanov in a televised government meeting.

Dmitry Medvedev, prime minister, said Moscow would fight for its money. “I have the sense that they will not pay back because they are crooks,” Mr Medvedev said in a TV interview.
